How to Choose the Right Toothbrush for You

September 12th, 2016|

As an everyday essential, a toothbrush is a quality item you should always have handy in your daily kit. While not all of us are experts at oral hygiene, there are still some critical, yet simple, steps that can be taken from the outset. If you’re too quick to walk past this particular aisle in the supermarket, it could be time to rethink your current approach towards your daily regime, starting with a new toothbrush.

Here’s a few handy tips to help you decide which one is best suited for you…

Manual or electric

There’s still a bit of a debate going on around which of these versions is best for your teeth overall. Manual toothbrushes can offer a thorough clean, as long as certain techniques are consistently upheld, and are done so gently. Electric ones, however, are perfect for those who aren’t great with hand-related dexterity, or suffer from arthritis. Additionally, these automatic versions are great when crowded teeth and irregular spacing in the mouth is an issue.

Bristle type

A majority of industry professionals would agree that soft-bristled toothbrushes are better for eliminating plaque and debris, especially because they do so in a gentler way. Harder ones can not only be more uncomfortable to use, but can also miss detrimental remnants.

Handle variations

These days, there’s a huge range of handle types and head shapes on toothbrushes that are available. Ultimately, the one you choose in this aspect comes down to what is most comfortable for you to use.

A little side note

More than anything, it’s critical that you replace your toothbrush as soon as wear and tear is beginning to show. If this isn’t obvious, replace every three months. If you have been sick, it’s critical that you replace as soon as you recover, or you risk reinfection.
