3 Secrets to a Healthy, Radiant Smile

November 25th, 2015|

Whenever you turn on the TV or surf the internet, you’re bombarded by images of celebrities with stunning, radiant smiles. And while it may seem these million dollar smiles occur naturally, unfortunately, that is not the case. The truth is, if you want to achieve a healthy, glowing smile, it takes hard work and tireless dedication to your oral health.

The foundation to attaining a truly enviable smile is practicing good dental habits. This includes brushing and flossing daily and visiting the friendly team at The Townsville Dentist at least twice a year. Sound dental habits like these will greatly reduce your risk of gum disease, tooth decay and other dental problems.

By practicing good dental habits and following these three key tips, you will maintain a million dollar smile which belongs on the red carpet.

Brush and Floss Daily – You’ve probably heard this one since childhood. It’s such an oral hygiene staple that it risks going in one ear and out the other. However, daily brushing and flossing is not just about keeping periodontal disease at bay. By incorporating brushing and flossing into your daily routine, you’ll prevent tooth decay and bad breath.

For a beautiful smile and healthy mouth, you should brush twice a day (in the morning and before bedtime) and floss at least once a day. In addition, we recommend that you visit us every six months. This way, our team can get on top of any dental issues before they become problems.

Be Mindful of Your Diet – The best way to maintain a healthy mouth is eating a healthy diet. For healthy gums, ensure you include foods filled with vitamins A to E. Also, to keep teeth clean, eat plenty of crunchy fruits and vegetables.

Although many of us love our morning cup of coffee or the occasional glass of red wine, these dietary staples are among the leading causes of dental problems. In addition to these, citrus, sugar and carbohydrates all cause adverse effects on the teeth and gums. To prevent the eventual softening and erosion of enamel, drink plenty of water.

Avoid Smoking – Smoking can severely compromise your dental health. It causes stained teeth and bad breath, as well as an increased risk of lines around the mouth, due to muscle contraction. Cutting down on your cigarette intake is an effective way to ensure your smile remains bright.
