Causes of Teeth Grinding

Bruxism is multi-factorial. It is often a result of a variety of psychological/physiological or even iatrogenic damage from incorrectly prescribed dental treatment or even habitual . Usually bruxism has been linked to stress, wrong alignment of teeth or a poor bite. Sometimes clenching or grinding of teeth can also occur due to the neuromuscular diseases involving the face or as a result of severe brain injury. Some psychiatric medications like sertraline (Zoloft), antidepressant medications, paroxetine (Paxil) and fluoxetine (Prozac) can cause Bruxism as an uncommon side effect.
